Multimodal Statement

For my third paper I used a number of different multimodal choices to enhance my writing and to answer the prompt fully. My overall essay explained how I believe I am a narrative and my belief that similar to Julie Beck in her “Life’s Stories,” our individual stories can shape us. I also incorporated some of Galen Strawson’s work from his “I am not a Story” to demonstrate the non-narrative way of thinking. Also, Strawson’s work referenced several great examples that support the narrative way of thinking, including the work of Dan MacAdams, which I highlight in my paper. In my paper I incorporated my own personal story and the works of  Beck, Strawson, and McAdams to cover the linguistic multimodal aspect. I also included visual multimodal  aspects into my paper in a number of ways. I included some pictures of myself to tell the story of my narrative,  and how I have developed from an actor to an author in the words of McAdams. I also changed up the font and added some color aspects within my paper to show more of my personality and make it truly my own paper and narrative, in support of my essay. For my third multimodal aspect I included some audio by imbedding  a video of Dan McAdams explaining his views of oneself as a story to further the point of the importance of a narrative. Lastly, I incorporated the spatial multimodal aspect into my project. I did this by placing the pictures throughout my project on opposite sides of the page to add some separation and demotion in my essay as well  as advance the topic of my essay. I also included some page breaks of bigger bold quotes to not only prove my  point of the importance of narratives but also add some intriguing spatial details to my paper. I believe that by  including all of these multimodal aspects into my paper that it not only enhanced my overall writing but also created an interesting and powerful multimodal academic personal essay.
