Learning out come four states that a student must “be able to critique their own and others’ work by emphasizing global revision early in the writing process and local revisions later in the process.” Feel that at first I was nervous about critiquing the work of my classmates because I am not the strongest writer myself but I feel like I developed this skill over time by thinking about what corrections I would find helpful and how I would want someone to tell me to fix them. In class we most often worked on giving our peers feedback on global edits, and I feel that I show this in my marked first draft of my peers paper, I feel I gave my peer advise to help them prove their thesis and write a powerful and impactful paper. In my example I gave my peer the advice “that I think if you were to narrow your focus and make your thesis a bit more specific your paper would be much more powerful and it would help to get your message across more clearly.” I felt like this was genuine advise that I would have wanted to receive if my reader felt my message was being lost in my writing. I think that through this class I found a nice balance between critiquing my peers work as well as supporting my peers work and the difference between global and local edits, and the importance of both.
