My revision skills have come a long way since the beginning of this semester. In the beginning of the semester I remember filling out a survey to inform Professor Emerson of what I believed to be my strength and weaknesses, and revision was defiantly high on my list of things that I was not fully comfortable with. However, through this course and all of the resources it offered me I feel that I am defiantly more confident when approaching my own work as well as my peers work for revision. The second paper was defiantly the hardest paper for me to write. But I feel that from my first draft of my second paper to my final draft it shows my ability to engage in both global edits and local edits when revising. As seen, in the drafts of my second paper I made some major global edits. After meeting with my class writing fellow Emmy a few times, I was able to reorganize and rewrite some parts of my paper to produce and final draft that I was happy with. While focusing on global editing I was able to pick a side of the argument presented, which in this case was science v.s. art in the classroom and provide stronger evidence to support my argument and prove my thesis fully. This was something I struggled with in my first draft, I did not have a firm argument which caused me to struggle with writing as well as proving my thesis. But through this course I have gained the skills to feel confident making large global edits, such as the ones I made in my second paper and feel good about the changes I am making. I have also improved my ability to make local edits as well. Through the educational but humorous videos we watched in class regarding sentence structure and the use of punctuation, I feel more confident in myself, where before I relied a lot on peer editing to help me fix these mistakes. Overall, I feel that I have achieved my goal of satisfying learning outcome one this semester, and I can now uses these skills as I further my education in other courses here at UNE.
