For my course NSG 477, Transition to Practice we had to write a clinical exemplar. A Clinical Exemplar (also called a Clinical Narrative) is a descriptive story of a nursing encounter with a patient, family, or other clinical situation that serves a number of purposes in professional nursing career advancement. It is a reflective practice that supports nursing knowledge development. We practiced this since we will likely be required to write clinical exemplars for job applications, continuing education, or clinical ladders. Also, many hospitals now require a clinical exemplar for annual performance review and peer evaluation.
